Importance of Periodontal Health

“A person is not healthy without good oral hygiene.”
     – C. Everett  Koop, M.D., Former U.S. Surgeon General

A healthy mouth is a clean mouth with minimal invasion by bacteria, which can lead to buildup of plaque and tartar. When bacteria build up on teeth and gums, infection can set in, causing pain, discomfort and sensitivity when eating. This condition is called periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums as a result of bacteria buildup. Various stages of periodontal disease can create different levels of pain and discomfort.

The goal of an effective periodontal treatment plan is to restore oral health, which in turn will restore a person’s comfort.
